Yellow and Scarlet Riso Print (03/03/26)
I made this zine based on the song Sixteens off of MIKE's Burning Desire album. The song is basically one long verse with no hook, which explains the name sixteens in reference to sixteen bars in a verse. On pages 1, 3, and 5, I pulled direct lines from the song and made each line interact with abstract imagery. I was tasked with only using abstract imagery throughout the entirety of this zine, and I feel I kept all imagery components abstract, from the flame on page 1 to the abstract portrait of MIKE on the back cover. Page 3 is an abstract depiction of a banshee with fire for hair, and page 5 is an abstract heart bleeding. I wanted to play with layering, especially since I was using a Riso printer. Using the Scarlet and Yellow to make orange on certain pages was helpful in diversifying the page layouts and color palettes. I also decided to include the track list for the rest of the album on page 6, adding some more fire elements with the yellow line that follows the length of each song name. This gives me the opportunity to make a zine for every song if I wanted to, which I may do at some point.
